PÖFF30 | Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival | 6-22 november 2026 | Cinema Artis
Ana, a young university student, sees her life turned upside down following the sudden death of her sister. One night, she is abducted by a stranger who takes her to a secluded house, far from the city. Ana tries to escape, but ends up being knocked out by her captor. The next morning, she wakes up in a bed in a cosy room. The windows are barred and outside, a lush forest stretches around the estate. There she meets three other girls who welcome the newcomer warmly and behave as if they were the man’s daughters. To Ana’s surprise, they too have been held captive.
Ana will discover that for decades, the man has been kidnapping a girl every four years and, after releasing another, adopts the new captive as one of his daughters. Whether she likes it or not, she will have to become one of them.
Daniel Romero’s first feature-length film, “The Daughters”, which premiered at Sitges, Europe’s largest genre film festival, is directed with the gothic, unsettling atmosphere characteristic of Spanish horror, exploring the most primal fear of the human soul – what it means to be left alone.
The film’s international premiere will take place at PÖFF.
