COMPETITION PROGRAMME 1

Briefly Human

What does death taste like when it shows up uninvited? Dress up. Settle things. Join the masked dance. And hope you don’t turn into a soul-eating demon. We’re only briefly human. What comes next is not our business. Not yet.

Films:

The Masque of the Red Death by Rune Callewaert (Belgium, 2024)

When the eccentric owner of a bustling nightclub keeps an eye on his business, his gaze falls on a mysterious lady dressed in red whom he wants to make his own at all costs. While the other guests at the club loose themselves in decadence, the owner remains spellbound by the lady and his inner demons. Will he risk to loose it all? The Masque of the Red Death is a stop-motion allegory about lust, decadence and decay.

Based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe (1809 – 1849) in which a bloody pestilence manages to invade a masked ball in a barricaded castle.

Red Meat by Eleni Aerts (Belgium, 2024)

Valu, ebamugavuse ja haavatavuse poeetiline kujutis.

Hatker by Alejandro Ariel Martin (Argentina, 2025)

On a late night in a run-down office, a group of workers find themselves stuck to the ceiling by their hats. Blindly carrying out their tasks, they are oblivious to the absurdity of their situation. When an old telephone rings, they begin to disappear one by one. A worker named Hatker dares to confront the reality, ultimately turning the Kafkaesque world upside down.

Sisowath Quay by Stéphanie Lansaque and François Leroy (France, 2025)

Phnom Penh. Nakry and Sothear meet on the Sisowath quay for their first date. At nightfall, the romance turns into a nightmare when the young girl transforms into a strange creature…

Impossible Maladies by Stefano Tambellini and Alice Tambellini (Italy, 2023)

Aboard their cart, Doctor Rabarbaro and his assistant Tosse travel from house to house to cure absurd illnesses with their ingenious remedies.

Not Dead by Alex Reis (Brazil, 2025)

The birth of a young black couple's first child brings happiness, but also agony. The father experiences and expresses his dilemmas regarding the arrival, coexistence and departure of his beloved firstborn.

A Dog by Juan Camardella (Argentina, 2024)

On a night in Buenos Aires in the 1960s, a man conducts a job interview.

Her Dress for the Final by Martina Meštrović (Croatia, 2023)

One day my granny dyed her wedding dress black. She wanted to be buried in it.

A Round of Applause for Death by Stephen Irwin (United Kingdom, 2024)

Death takes centre stage and faceless spectators applaud the inevitable in a series of murderous dreams.

Films will be screened in the original language with English subtitles.
