At the end of March, Tallinn University's Baltic Film, Media, and Arts School (BFM) will celebrate its 20th anniversary! To mark the occasion, 14 exciting student films will be selected from the extensive archive to be screened together on the big screen at Cinema Artis. Among the filmmakers are quite a few big names in today’s film scene, making it a great opportunity to see how much progress has been made or what early signs of success were already visible.

There will be a total of three screenings:

„From life and dreams“ - 24.03 19:00

„Alone and together“ - 29.03 14:00

„Different perspective“ - 30.03 14:00

All films will be screened with English subtitles. Each screening will have a short Q&A session with the filmmakers at the end.

March 30 – „Different perspective“

The third BFM 20th anniversary screening, „Different perspective“, presents five student films that challenge worldviews and shake up perceptions.

Säde

After serving time in prison for causing a fire, Tristan finds himself facing an unexpected challenge when, upon release, his long-awaited reunion with his injured daughter demands more of him than he could have anticipated. (Director: Rebeka Rummel; producer: Johanna Maria Paulson; screenwriter: Laura Raud; cinematographer: Peter Kollanyi; sound designer: Aleksandra Koel-Tsupsman; editor: Moonika Põdersalu.)

The Last Romeo

A musical film created as part of Moonika Siimets' master's program, telling the story of a rural boy whose life and dreams can change in a single evening. (Director, screenwriter: Moonika Siimets; producer: Elari Lend; cinematographer and sound designer: Ivar Taim; editors: Marta Pulk and Maik Kalberg.)

The Rave

A story about three young people whose party takes a dark turn when a mysterious substance turns a seemingly harmless gathering into a deadly zone. They must escape demons and fight for their lives. (Director: Johannes Magnus Aule; producer: Aili Maarja; co-producer: Johannes Magnus Aule; screenwriters: Janar Saaron and Johannes Magnus Aule; cinematographer: Gunnar Laal; sound designer: Joonas Taimla; editor: Andres Hallik.)

Tiiu and the Dragon

Much to Aunt Tiiu’s delight, more than three people finally attend her dance evening, but the main reason for their visit is actually a dragon rampaging outside. Tiiu’s best friend Marta asks everyone to keep the truth to themselves, but soon chaos ensues as guests start feeling a bit too at home, putting walls, furniture, and Tiiu’s big heart to the test. (Director: Teresa Juksaar; screenwriter: Sven-Sander Paas; producer: Merili Laur; cinematographer: Karl-Robert Kurm; sound designer: Kreete Kokovkin; editor: Patrick Antonjuk.)

Alien or Valdis’ Escape in 11 Chapters

Arguably the most legendary student film to come out of BFM, directed by Rasmus Merivoo. This short film portrays a striking subculture within society—often labeled as "jõmlus"—characterized by indulgence in food, reckless money-making, heavy drinking, casual sex, and fast driving.
